Virtual Announcements & Pickles

The end of the third week of school......We have successfully completed our third week of school!  It has been a fantastic start to the new school year.  I am excited at the opportunities we have available for our students.
We have implemented PBL, although we are still in the infancy stages.  Basically, we are striving to make sure our student's lessons are R.E.A.L. applicable to the real-world, and creating a learning environment preparing our students for success.  Our 5th Graders have already started conducting Virtual Announcements which are a spin-off from our old announcement process, but instead in video clips.  These are put on by the students, and then shared through the classrooms.  In addition, the 5th Grade has started to organize, plan, and facilitate our weekly pickle sales.  Both of these activities encourage our students to be creative learners and critical thinkers.

Day 4 of the 2013-2014 School Year "Throwback Thursday!"

I vividly remember my first days of school in every grade that I attended, here at CISD (which was all grades K-12).  These are some of the best memories that I have as an adolescent.  Growing up here in Cameron and attending CISD beginning at St. Monica's and ending up at "old Yoe," was what made me who I am today.  I enjoyed every minute of my public education, and to the faculty and staff who were responsible for my learning I am forever indebted to  your services.  I wanted to take the time to say, "Thank You!' Today when you drop your student off at school, or when you enter the building teachers to teach your classes for the day, remember that you are responsible for creating out future!  It's in your hands!  Have a great, Throwback Thursday!

TEPSA 2013

Okay fellow principals.... I am currently at TEPSA, and having a great time!  I just finished a Master's Class, with Marcia Tate on, "Worksheets Don't Grow Dendrites!"  I highly recommend this book, as well as, attending ANY training Marcia Tate is conducting!  HOW AWESOME!  I cannot wait to begin the next school year and put some of these practices into place.  Of the 20 Instructional Strategies that Engage the Brain that we discussed this morning....  I chose one big practice to implement at my campus.  I am going to utilize music!  According to Marcia utilizing music in the classroom helps to link the two sides of the brain together and has been proven to increase Math Skills in students!

Cameron Elementary Donates to West, Texas

I am so very proud of our CES Students and Staff members!

In an effort to help our neighboring community recover from the devastating explosion that occurred on April 17th.  Our students participated in a coin drive held here at CES, on Thursday and Friday April 25th & 26th.

In just two days these outstanding students raised $829.32.

The third grade class that raised the most money was, Mrs. Bailey's class that raised $119.19.

The fourth grade class that raised the most money and earned an ice cream party, was Mrs. Anderle's class, they raised $58.73.

The fifth grade class that raised the most money and earned an ice cream party, was Mrs. Daly's they raised $128.38

Later in the week, these classes are going to receive an ice cream party for their efforts!

I am so very proud of our Cameron Elementary Students, not only are they learning how to become life-long learners, they are learning to give back to the community and help others in need, through compassion and hard-work.
